We are pleased to welcome this discussion by Sonia Dalmia, Ph. D. Sonia is a Full Professor and the Chair of the Economics Department and the Director of Assessments at the Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University. She earned her B.A. degree in Economics (Honors) and her B.Ed. degree in Economics and Mathematics at the University of Delhi in India. She also has M.A. degrees in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and from the University of Oklahoma. Her Ph.D. in Economics is from the University of Iowa. She has published extensively on the economics of marriage. Her research is cited both nationally and internationally and is frequently used as assigned reading in classrooms around the world.

Sonia also has an extensive record of service to the Seidman College of Business, Grand Valley State University and the Grand Rapids community. She is a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission and serves on the Kent Hospital Finance Authority Board. She is a recipient of the Barbara Jordan Award and has been nominated for both the Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Community Service Awards at Grand Valley.

Sonia is currently serving as the Interim Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Grand Valley State University. Her primarily responsibilities include university-level leadership in assessment and accreditation.
